About Nick Black

If Michael Buble and Robin Thicke had been born in Memphis, they'd sound just like Nick Black.

Memphis’ newest soul artist, Nick Black is bursting onto the music scene with a style that will force you to take notice. Take his modern soul voice, layer his funky string and horn arrangements, add an infusion of hip-hop and old school rhythm & blues, and you’ve got a sound that's fresh and familiar at the same time. It demands attention.

Plus, it's really fun to dance to.

Since 2011, Nick Black has toured nationally and internationally with blues artist Victor Wainwright & The WildRoots, getting a real education in music after graduating from the University of Memphis with a degree in music business.

His new album, aptly named The Soul Diaries, really is a diary. Four years in the making, Nick began writing it while still in college, recording it in different studios backed by a wide array of talented Memphis musicians. It allows the listener to look back and listen to Nick’s different influences over those years, along with how he has grown as a musician, composer, and producer.

With an awesome seven-piece band, Nick Black will astonish you with his musical and vocal talents, his skilled covers and soulful originals, and his charming stage presence.

"Even having seen many of his performances, I'm amazed at the variety of styles Nick Black handles, and the ease with which he handles them. A fine synthesis of pop, soul, and pure, raw emotion." — Silver Michaels, Memphis music & art critic
