About Memphis Yacht Club
So what is "Yacht Rock"?
Simply: It's the smooth, melodic rock beloved by yuppies from roughly 1975-85. Steely Dan, Toto, Hall & Oates, Doobie Brothers, Jackson Browne, Orleans, Al Stewart — all charted numerous classic Yacht Rock songs. And all still sound great today.
So let's say it's a beautiful Saturday afternoon on the mighty Mississippi. You've got a yacht, a case of champagne, and dozens of your closest friends on board. What's playing through the weather-proof Bose speakers? Rosanna, Lovely Day, Baby Come Back, Brandy, Hey 19, Kiss on My List, and of course Afternoon Delight and Sailing!
Cheesy? Sure, a little. But it's memorable and quite sophisticated pop music that conjures a simpler time before cell phones, MTV, and, if you go by the album covers of that era, razors.
And now for the listening pleasure of the Mid-South and most of America, some of the finest, most polished musicians from Memphis have joined forces to create the ultimate Yacht Rock experience, the Memphis Yacht Club.
Brandy, you're a fine girl, so let’s cast off and take a voyage to the top of the charts!
