About Carla Thomas

She sang some of the most memorable pop hits of the 60's and 70's and helped define the legendary Stax sound. Daughter of R&B genius Rufus Thomas, sister of hitmakers Vaneese and Marvell Thomas, Carla Thomas is the Queen of Memphis Soul, with a voice grown more powerful with age and a charisma both timeless and astonishing.

Before she was 18, she had two national hits: " 'Cause I Love You" and "Gee Whiz". Another 22 chart-busters followed, including "I'll Bring It on Home to You," "Let Me Be Good to You," "B-A-B-Y," "Tramp" (with Otis Redding), and "I Like What You're Doing to Me." In 2001, she released Live in Memphis with a bevy of Memphis' top players and singers, receiving critical acclaim and thousands of new fans worldwide.

Carla's current band, led by her brother Marvell, travels the world performing at major festivals, charity galas, and corporate events. Few bands anywhere can match this group's versatility — from soft jazz to gut-bucket blues to booty-shaking R&B — and no singer anywhere can match Carla's brilliance.

For real Memphis music — for real soul — go to the source. No one does it better than Carla Thomas.

We didn’t know that we were doing something revolutionary. Stax was our kingdom, and Carla was our Queen. — Isaac Hayes
